They stood in a circle

Like a necklace of iron.

They were waiting for a white calf to transform.

They are Dakota

with sweet grass in their stomachs.

They are waiting for a white calf to transform.

While the black eagle screamed and moved across the sun

They stood waiting for a white calf to transform.

The great plains mirage circled in from afar

The familiar beloved rolling cloud.

The Grass-eaters hummed, waiting

for a white calf to transform.

The cloud it rolled closer, and the bison drummed harder

waiting for a white calf to transform

The buffalo broke running toward a white calf who was tumbling like sage across the prairie.

Dancing on hind legs

with their rattles of stone

they flipped over and over again.

As the white calf danced with them it began to transform and the Thunder Manitou whistled with delight.

A young woman appeared pipe in hand,

replacing calf fur with white fringes.

The bison now silenced their drums,

rounding the Calf Woman

as a necklace of iron.

The blue bison as Shaman chewed sage while singing to the sky…

A begging song for a gift of fire

The Thunderer laughed as he lit the great stone pipe

A smoking red pipe raised upwards to the winds of creation

Calf Woman offered the great pipe to the Cottonwood… he smoked and then passed it to blue buffalo.

The silver sky filled with rainbows

who were shouting and yelling in a Sioux warrior language

White Buffalo Calf Woman smiled waving up at the rainbows,

donned her boots and made ready to go

White Buffalo Calf Woman gazed at the iron haired men and then breathed into each ear…

Cody I love you…you’re mine

Then she became a white buffalo calf who tumbled away in a cloud of dust.
