We are taught that the truth will set you free, and honesty is the best policy. That when faced with trials, to thine own self be true, and we all hold back sometimes when the truth is overdue. Resentment can fester when we keep quiet about words and acts that erode our souls. But angry, belligerent conduct is no way to foster trust and respect for one another. Not every thought needs to be said, not every grievance is worth the fight, some insults we just need to suffer.
Honesty grounds us in who we are, brings light in closed minded dark, guides us to the concept of truth, be it ever so far. If we meditate upon the falsehoods, swallow the propaganda, and live our lives in service of false doctrine, without even wondering what is true. Then our lives will be shadow puppets on the wall, interpretations of a muted light that filters through all our lies. Things can be factually untrue yet emotionally honest. That’s why good fiction prospers.
Our fantasy worlds can be spellbinding, and even lead us to delusions of grandeur. Our narrative gives us a sense of purpose, while wondering through a world of illusions. So be honest, despite shame, despite anger, despite pride. Your mistakes are yours to make, and no one should keep you from expressing yourself freely, and with joy, because you are what you are honestly.
