The Rat: Robert St. Germain

The rat is in the sewer walking through the muck

He is running around, down on his luck

He has a dream of living free

And he longs to wander by the sea

He gets bored of this labyrinth so he heads up to the street

This is the place where tribes compete

He walks past the cars and garbage cans

He is trying to come up with a plan

He finds a stairway to the subway down below

Something tells him that this is where to go

Once inside, he finds a unique place

A place with all kinds of human race

He sees the homeless and the buskers trying to stay alive

And much like the rat, it is hard to survive

He sees employees heading home from work

They try so hard to prove their worth

He watches the trains go by

And a thought enters his mind

Why not hop on one

What to lose when all is said and done

So he rides the train to the end of the line

Then he gets off the train feeling fine

He walks through a park, under a starry sky

He is on the right track, but he doesn’t know why

Then he finds a lake so wide and fast

He hopes that this moment will last

It is not an ocean, but it’s close enough

Now life doesn’t seem so rough
