In one breath the smoke lifted
In one sound the drum beat
No one felt the pinch
And no leftover find
As women met and pounded felt
No man clung to his bow
As the mallet fell
The young matched the elders
As the adlers shok
No smoke matched its coil
As rattles shook
And the snare snapped
And the bellow heard
As the arrow felt
The blessing of moose
In disguised sacrifice
And the pot brewed
And the circle fell
As sleep sounded
The circle of life
And children laughed and prayed
For life’s blessing
On a shady trail
