Outside: Betty Carmichael

It is cold outside and all I want to do is go for a walk. But rain falls on my head. The geese are flying south. Back in 1982 I went to Freeport, Bahamas. I guess you could say I went south. One year I went to the Barbados. I’ve been to Churchill where the snow was up to the kitchen window. We had driven from Calgary to Winnipeg and took the train the rest of the way.

I was the first one to in the immediate family to go on a holiday. After that my sisters started going on holidays.

The most interesting place was the Bahamas. The children going to school all dressed the same. That way there were no comparisons. I met a man who was blind. He wanted me to stay and be his companion, but I said that I couldn’t because I had to get back to Manitoba. Just think how my life would have been. I would have a permanent tan! Maybe I would have had a child there and I’m certain that it would have had curly hair. But all good things come to an end and now I’m back with my immediate family.
