Fortunate am I to be bilingual for this has permitted me to watch a French-dubbed “Downtown Abbey” story which lately I have become addicted to. Though I would have preferred watching it in its original language I was pleased to touch base with a program that has touched my mind. Happy was I in the denouements of many of the lead character’s lives and how they deal with the Fates set before them.
Much of the irony that demarcates many of the principal character is not lost as it is interwoven in the story lines of the programs. The years of change wrought about by the changes in society because of the First World War and the following years of change wrought about by the Corona virus and the changing fortunes of those who ruled and those who ruled is presented before us through the exploits of the Earl of Grantham’s family as each of its members maneuvers their way through the changes that are being crafted in their very societies. Much like those that changed our own societies, change was inevitable.
